Alliance represents co-operatives at B20 meetings in Washington

29 Apr 2016

Washington, DC, 17 April 2016. Charles Gould, Director General of the Alliance and Rodrigo Gouveia, Director of Policy, represented the co-operative movement at the B20 meetings that were held in conjunction with the IMF/World Bank Spring meetings in Washington. This was the first joint meeting of the task forces under the Chinese Presidency of the B20.

During this meeting, five B20 taskforces reviewed and discussed the first draft of their Policy Papers containing the preliminary recommendations from the B20 to G20 governments. The meeting also aimed to strengthen the interaction among B20, G20 Finance Track, and relevant international organisations including IMF and the World Bank, hoping to forge better coordination and cooperation in global economic and financial governance.

The Alliance representatives participated in the SME Development task force and the Employment task force where they argued for the inclusion of co-operative contributions to the topics under discussion within the final text of the recommendations.

The next joint meeting of the B20 task forces will take place in Paris at the end of May alongside the OECD annual meeting.
