Americas Regional Youth Report (December 2016)
Youth Regional Committee of Co-operatives of the Americas held its 12TH YOUTH REGIONAL MEETING: a generation more aware and active, also carried out its Fourth Regional Assembly in the framework of the IV Summit Co-operative "co-operatives: working together for sustainable development", held in Montevideo, Uruguay from 14 to November 18, 2016.
The youth meeting took as thematic the following: challenges and opportunities for the integration of young people in the social and solidarity economy and the road to the goals of sustainable development. For the latter issue, a workshop was held, taking as input the worked in the 8th youth Video Conference held in August. In this space young people were able to share their knowledge about the goals and their commitments to generate greater awareness of the importance of the involvement of young people for the construction of more egalitarian communities.
The Youth Regional Committee of Co-operatives of the Americas held its IV Regional Assembly with the assistance of 12 delegates holders and 7 alternate representatives of Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic. This being an informational Assembly had as subjects of agenda the presentation of activities of the last two years and the strategic planning for the next two. Additionally, at the Summit was the official launch of the award "José Antonio Chávez Villanueva" through a tribute to the memory of this young man with unique characteristics, he worked for many years for the development of youth in the region and around the world.. The first award ceremony will be held at the upcoming summit on 2018.
Online course: "Training of trainers in Social economy"
The Youth Regional Committee and Co-operatives of the Americas with the support of COOPERAR, FECOOTRA and its center of education and training put to disposal this course virtual that seeks to contribute to the training of a trainers team with a perspective of popular education for the exercise of training in cooperative.
The course was intended for trainers who build in pursuit of the strengthening of the solidarity economy, young people (between 18-35 years) who had at least one year of involvement with one of the Member organizations of the International Cooperative Alliance, in the region of the Americas. 17 of the 23 completed the course successfully, it was developed during the month of October.
