ICMIF members exchange experience

Board members from CIC Insurance Group, a co-operative insurer from Kenya, travelled to Canada in May to exchange experience with The Co-operators. The visit gave both co-operatives, which are ICMIF members, the chance to learn from each other. Nelson Kuria, chief executive of CIC Board gave a presentation on the history and transformation of CIC Insurance Group. Representatives from The Co-operators also delivered presentations on the co-operative’s structure, ownership and size, its relationship with other co-operatives as well as the history of the Canadian Co-operative Movement.

As part of the visit, The Co-operators organised a dinner meeting between Nelson Kuria and Teunis Haalboom, the retired chief executive of The Co-operators. In July board members from CIC Insurance Group will visit Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, also a member of ICMIF.

UK mutual insurer wins prestigious award

A UK based mutual insurer was named the Best Insurance Provider at this year’s Which? Awards in London. This is just one of the awards that NFU Mutual has won over the years, which include an accolade for the Best Financial Services Provider at the Which? Awards in 2013.

This recognition is particularly important, thinks Steve Bower, customer services director at NFU Mutual, because companies could not nominate themselves. The shortlist was chosen by experts based on research, testing and feedback.

This year NFU staff from Somerset and across the country have showed commitment by extending opening hours and supporting those affected by the flooding. Referring to the award, Mr Bower said it reflected NFU Mutual’s approach to customer service. He said: “Which? singled out our customer service – in particular, our claims handling and local, personal service – as factors that set us (NFU Mutual) apart from the competition”.
