33rd World Cooperative Congress interrupted, online closing ceremony to be communicated soon

03 Dec 2021

Dear attendees,

The safety and wellbeing of our staff, attendees and members are a top priority.

As you know, the 33rd World Cooperative Congress, both in-person and online, was interrupted after a Covid case was detected. The protocol from the health authorities of the Republic of Korea was activated immediately, and the situation is under control – but this situation prevented us from continuing the activities.

It is important to note that we have had almost three days of discussions and debates on the theme: "Deepening Our Cooperative Identity". During that time, our panellists and facilitators discussed many worthy proposals.

We are preparing an online closing of the Congress that will include the outcomes of the discussions, the words of Spanish Labour minister Yolanda Diaz and a message from ICA President, Ariel Guarco. The date for this will be communicated very soon.

Meanwhile, we encourage you to visit the Congress platform, which will be available until 18 February, to review any sessions you missed, and to continue thinking of ideas and steps you would like to take to deepen our cooperative identity.

In the months to come, the outcome from Congress will continue to be examined. The presentations from this event will still be available on the Congress online platform for further examination. In addition, the ICA board has appointed an advisory group, chaired by Alexandra Wilson, to guarantee that an inclusive and democratic debate will go on.

Keep safe and thank you for your dedication and commitment to the cooperative movement.
