The International Co-operative Alliance was represented at the joint B20 task force meetings that were held in Paris on the 30 and 31 May in conjunction with the OECD annual meetings.
This was an opportunity for the Alliance to reinforce its positions with the objective of having specific reference to cooperatives in the final recommendations of the B20 that will be presented to the Heads of State of G20 countries during their Summit in China in September.
Successful developments were achieved by the introduction of language on co-operative and mutual insurance including a call-out of the International Cooperative and Mutual International Federation (ICMIF) project 5-5-5 that aims at providing insurance coverage for five million people in five different countries.
Also in the employment discussion, the draft recommendations mention the important role of co-operatives in providing a type of organisation for individuals and entrepreneurs to work together and share risks and opportunities, increasing their chances of being successful.
The International Co-operative Alliance will continue to follow the developments and will be represented at the B20 Summit that will take place in China at the beginning of September.
