The Conference is being held on the background of economic meltdown of 2008-09, the impact of which is still undiminished and has affected all countries, both Developed and Emerging. One of the most notable feature that has emerged during the period has been that the Co-operatives not only were not affected by economic slow down but they remained vibrant and continued to deliver a variety of services and products at competitive rates and at the same time prospered and emerged financially strong.

The aim of the International conference is to promote the Co-operatives as a viable Economic Enterprise for Sustainable Economic and Social Change for the benefit of all sections of society. It also aims at building a consensus amongst the Policy makers and administrators to provide Autonomy and Operational Freedom by providing a facilitating economic and legal environment, particularly, as it ensures voluntary participation of the stake holders thus entailing limited risks and consequently need for much less financial resources.
