On 19 July, the Alliance participated in the high-level SDG Business Forum, which convened business leaders, government leaders, UN agency heads, and civil society to explore the role of the private sector in delivering the 2030 Agenda.
The Forum featured presentations for each of the seventeen SDGs, showcasing the progress of businesses in the first year of implementation. Among the seventeen speakers was Lea Rankinen, Senior Vice President of Sustainability of the Finnish consumer co-operative S-group. Her presentation focused on S-Group’s achievements on SDG 12 (sustainable consumption and production), including solutions for food waste and seasonal product sourcing.
In addition to business examples, the Forum featured sessions on scaling up private sector investment in sustainability, building partnerships, and monitoring SDG implementation.
Throughout the day, the Alliance shared examples of co-operative achievement from the Co-ops for 2030 platform with fellow participants and UN and government officials.
The one-day Forum was co-hosted by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), the UN Global Compact (of which the Alliance is a member), and the Global Business Alliance (GBA) for 2030.
