Mexican financial co-operative Caja Morelia Valladolid hosted its 53rd General Assembly in March. The event featured leaders from co-operatives in the region, including the International Co-operative Alliance President, Ariel Guarco.
Also taking part were César A. Zepeda, president of the Confederation of Saving and Credit Co-operatives of Mexico (CONCAMEX) and José Eduardo Alvarado, general manager of COOPENAE, Costa Rica's biggest savings and credit co-operative.
Mr Guarco praised the co-operative and the Americas region for its support and talked about the role of the Alliance at global level. He highlighted how the movement included 3 million co-ops around the world, which employed one tenth of the global working population and had a total turnover of USD $2.164tn. “We should feel happy and grateful to be part of a movement that at global level aims to build a better, fairer society,” he said, while also calling for further integration within the movement and with the civil society.
