ICA members are invited to submit Board nominations

30 May 2013

Members of the International Co-operative Alliance are invited to submit nominations for candidates for election to the ICA Board. The election of the board members will happen at the General Assembly in Cape Town in November.

In order to submit nominations, members need to fill in a Call for Board Nominations form. Only member organisations of the ICA can nominate candidates. Furthermore, only individuals accredited to a member organisation in good standing are permitted to serve on the Board.

Only one at-large Board member is permitted per country. The same country can submit more than one at-large nominee, but only the nominee who receives the highest number of votes would be eligible to serve.

As required by the ICA’s Bylaws, Board members serve a four-year term and can stand for re-election. Board members attend up to three meetings per year, held in various regions of the world. The positions are self-financing, which means that either the Board member or his or her organisation must cover the costs of attending the meetings.

ICA’s board is currently comprised of the President, four Vice Presidents, two representatives of the global sectoral organisations, one youth representative and 15 other at-large members. Sectoral organisations and youth representatives are nominated by their respective constituencies, while Vice Presidents are individuals elected by the regions as Regional Presidents. The 15 at-large board members are nominated directly by ICA members.

The Election Committee is encouraging members to submit nominations of women to the Board. The board currently consists of five women and 18 men. The deadline for submitting nominations to Charles Gould, ICA Director-General is 4 September.
