The International Co-operative Alliance is welcoming the Jordan Co-operative Corporation (JOR) as its new member. An independent organisation formed by the government to supervises the co-operative sector (societies and unions), JOR works in support of economic, social, cultural and local communities. It promotes self-reliance to achieve the social and economic benefits of co-operatives.
It has 1,605 member societies and, as of last year, had 24,388 members – which represents a growth from 23,758 members in 2015. JOR’s members turn over 64,118,129 Jordanian dinar a year.
This brings the Alliance’s membership to 307 – of which 262 are full members and 45 are Associate Members from 107 countries. Jordan is a new member country.
