Two co-ops have been featured in the Fortune 100 list of best companies to work for. REI, a leisure co-op, and Navy Federal Credit Union, an armed forces credit union received the prestigious accolade based on employee surveys.
REI came 28th in the rankings while Navy Federal was placed 47th.The assessment looks at the honesty and quality of communication by managers, support for employees’ personal and professional lives and the authenticity of relationships with colleagues. Over 276,000 employees were surveyed this year at companies with more than 1,000 employees.
Surveys at REI revealed that engagement exceeds 85% while 93% of employees believe in the co-op’s vision. Colleagues also benefit from “Yay Days” off to take part in their favourite activities and 50% pre-tax subsidies on public transport expenses.
Similarly, at Navy Federal Credit Union employees receive retirement programmes, performance pay incentives and loan discounts. The credit union runs three scholarship programmes and workers can also receive tuition reimbursement for undergraduate and graduate educational courses and textbooks. Volunteering is also encouraged through a special scheme. Navy Federal workplaces include convenience stores, fitness centres and wellness centres offering comprehensive healthcare at no charges.
