Ms Nurjahan Begum, advisor to Nobel Laureate and founder of the co-operative Grameen bank Professor Muhammad Yunus, is closing the International Cooperative Development Conference taking place during the International Co-operative Alliance’s Global Conference and General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur from 14 to 17  Novermber.

The International Cooperative Development Conference focuses on the importance of partnerships for co-operative development, and will feature speakers from different co-operatives and civil society actors from around the globe.

Ms Nurjahan Begum has an outstanding career and was one of the earliest associates of Professor Yunus during the establishment of Grameen Bank in 1976. She has been awarded the Susan M. Ms Begum will close the #coops4dev day long conference moderated by Amy Coughenour, NCBA CLUSA’s chief operating officer.

The first session of the conference, gathers different representatives from international institutions, trade unions, local authorities, and civil society, to identify and explain the added value of partnership and how co-operatives can make a greater impact in development processes through collaboration.

The second session offers the audience an opportunity to take an in-depth look at real partnership cases in action, with speakers from the global co-operative movement sharing their first-hand experience.

The conference is one of the activities stemming from the partnership between the Alliance and the European Commission, signed in 2016. The agreement recognises co-operatives as strong development actors and aims to further strengthen the global movement, enhance its visibility and increase its capacity to influence global and regional development policies. To follow updates on the partnership follow the hashtag #coopsdev on social media.

The International Cooperative Development Conference will take place on 15 November, the second day of the International Co-operative Alliance’s General Assembly and Global Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. To see the full program of the Global Conference click here.
