Yochai Benkler has been confirmed as one of the keynote speakers at the Alliance’s global conference in Antalya, Turkey. The well-known author and academic will look at the role of shared resources and human co-operation to achieve better market solutions.
Prof Benkler is Berkman Professor of Entrepreneurial Legal Studies at Harward Law School and faculty co-director of the Berkman Center for Interest and Society at Harvard University.
In his research he has focused on commons-based approaches to managing resources in networked environments. By “commons-based peer production” he describes collaborative efforts based on sharing information, such as free and open source software and Wikipedia.
His latest book, The Penguin and the Leviathan: How Cooperation Triumphs over Self-interest, makes a case for co-operation and collaboration. The book, published in 2011, uses evidence from neuroscience, economics, sociology, biology and real-world examples to challenge the myth of self-interest and show the power of co-operation.
One of the world’s top thinkers on co-operative structures, Prof Benkler has earned a number of awards, including a lifetime achievement award from Oxford University and the Ford Foundation Visionaries Award.
