Co-operatives are being invited to take part in a global research project to build upon the International Co-operative Alliance's Global300 report.

Being a part of the World Co-operative Monitor is now even easier, with the launch of a shorter, summary survey for co-operatives to take part in, which is in addition to the longer, more detailed survey that is still available.

The World Co-operative Monitor was launched by the ICA with the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (Euricse) as a better way to determine the top 300 co-operatives in the world. Though, the survey also extends beyond finding the top 300 and co-operatives of all sizes are invited to take part in the project.

Co-operatives have the choice of filling in the summary version, which will allow them to enter only the general rankings, or the complete questionnaire that will give them full participation to the multi-dimensional database and report.

Chuck Gould, ICA Director-General, explained that the ICA wanted to relaunch the Global300 report with a much more “rigorous methodology”. He added: "The Global300 is already a good, solid report, but as we raise our public profile, we need to notch up our game, and ensure greater accuracy and inclusiveness in our reporting. Euricse will help us deliver more robust data."

There are many benefits to the new programme such as: increasing the profile of co-operatives within their own industries and countries as well as internationally, and demonstrating the economic importance of co-operatives and mutuals to government and other regulatory agencies.

The selection and ranking of each co-operative will be based on various parameters including social value indicators.

• The report will be released at the ICA's close of the International Year in Manchester on October 31st. Organisations that submit the questionnaire by 31 July will be entered into a draw to win a large IYC flag. To take part, click here.
