A Bollywood producer of over 4,500 TV programmes and films has arranged a two-day conference in India to promote the former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru’s dream of a better co-operative movement.
The conference, organised by Sandeep Marwah, will take place from 5-6 December in New Dehli with the theme: Nehru’s call - promoting a culture of co-operative enterprises, volunteering a better world.
The event aims to increase public awareness of co-operative organisations and their contribution towards socio-economic development of the country. Organised by Mr Marwah, President of the Asian Society of Film and Television, and its associated NGO, the World Peace Development and Research Foundation, he explained: “The co-operative movement in India has spread along the length and breadth of the nation.”
“As co-operation is the powerful instrument for self improvement of individuals members as well as for the development of others as a group, it is essential to spread the benefits to all sections of people to join the co-operative organisation and derive the benefits.”
The conference was influenced by the words of former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, who said: “My outlook is to convulse India with the co-operative movement; or rather with co-operation; to make it, broadly speaking the basic activity of India.”
The event will have representatives from international organisations including the ICA, ILO, FAO and other UN organisations; along with All India Industries Association and other international and civil societies organisations.
There are 600 representatives set to attend, particularly youth from all parts of India and some 100 young people and experts from around 90 countries. Mr Marwah holds the world record for producing 1,800 short films in the past 21 years and set up the Asian Academy of Film and Television. He has been involved in many social campaigns and continues to work towards a sustainable global future.
• The conference will be held in the NCUI Auditorium, 3, Siri Institutional Area, August Kranti Marg, New Delhi.
