Cooperatives - Key actors of social economy in Romania

One day event that gathered for the first time cooperatives unions, researchers and NGos around the topic What is the current situation of cooperative sector in Romania and what could be the ways to stimulate its development. Findings of a national study and survey of coops in Romania was discussed. The findings show steep decline in membership and number of work places in the conext of changes of the legislation in 2005 which allowed cooperative legal form to get closer to corporate companies. The conclusionw as that there is aneed for return to cooperative principles of the ICA and public policies to favor more cooperative start-ups and development of existing ones.
