The International Cooperative Alliance has released a video to highlight some of the 2022 milestones for its global office.
The video, which is available on its YouTube channel with English voice over, is subtitled in Spanish and French.
It explains, among others, how the Cooperative Identity Advisory Group disseminated a preliminary global survey to examine whether the cooperative identity is adequately defined and understood. It also mentions how the ICA organised a side-event as part of the UNESCO Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development - Mondiacult 2022 on 26 September.
Another highlight for the year was the ICA General Assembly (GA) in June in Seville, which included side events organised by the Spanish Confederation of Worker Cooperatives (COCETA). The GA was attended by 246 ICA member organisations from 81 countries, who renewed the mandate of ICA President, Ariel Guarco, and elected a new board for the next four years.
In the field of advocacy, the 60th session of the UN Commission for Social development, at which the ICA submitted a statement highlighting cooperatives’ role in driving recovery post COVID-19, is mentioned.
In 2022, under the Indonesian G20 Presidency, ICA member INKUR Federation led the process of ensuring cooperatives are well represented in the G20 discussions. The video points out that INKUR collaborated with the ICA G20 Working Group to organise side events alongside the G20 events.
The 2022 International Day of Cooperatives, which marked the 100th edition of the event, was an opportunity for cooperators to take to social media to shout about the difference cooperatives make. The ICA received and shared stories from more than 60 countries via an interactive CoopsDay map.
The video also refers to some of the activities carried out by the International Cooperative Entrepreneurship Think Tank (ICETT), the ICA Youth Committee and the ICA Gender Equality Committee during the year.
“We wish to thank all ICA members for their support over the last year. This is our work, a collective and enduring project belonging to more than one billion people united by their conviction that a better world is possible and necessary,” concludes the video.
