Two new organisations have joined the International Cooperative Alliance over the last couple of months: Kenya Co-operative Coffee Exporters (KCCE) from Kenya (member) and Eswatini Farmers Cooperative Union (ESWAFCU) from Eswatini (associate member).
A licensed coffee marketing agent, KCCE helps smallholder farmer members access local and foreign markets. They include 69 primary cooperatives, four unions and one national cooperative. The cooperative helped farmers secure a 300% increase in coffee payments.
ESWAFCU is a national apex body for agricultural cooperatives in Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland. The federation helps its members improve access to inputs, equipment, markets and technical information. It includes 61 cooperatives with 1,781 individual members.
The ICA has now 310 members from 110 countries.
