15 Dec 2020

In November 2020 the ICA welcomed two new members: Agriterra from the Netherlands and Department of Co-operative Development (DCD) from Sri Lanka.

Agriterra is a cooperative development organisation set up by the Dutch agricultural sector as an organisation for international peer-to-peer agricultural cooperation. It provides training and advice and organises study tours for directors, staff and members of cooperatives and farmers’ unions.

As part of its international agenda, Agiterra recruits and deploys farming and cooperative experts from all over the world (agripoolers) to countries with emerging economies, where it provides expert advice and training to cooperatives and farmer organisations.

The Department of Co-operative Development (DCD) from Sri Lanka joined the ICA as an Associate Member. DCD was set up under the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons, Cooperative Development and Vocational Training & Skills Development. Its role is to register national level cooperative unions and federations as well as individual cooperatives, conduct financial audits, promote cooperatives and implement cooperative policies. Overall, 75 national level cooperative federations and societies are registered under DCD.

The latest ICA membership stats are: 317 member organisations, 274 full members and 43 Associate Members, from 112 countries.
