Founded in 1972, Karma Co-operative is the oldest member-owned food co-op in Toronto. With about 1000 members, this nonprofit food store is also the largest organization of its kind in Ontario. During this 40th anniversary, Karma has been selected to be part of Doors Open Toronto! "The City of Toronto presents the annual Doors Open Toronto — one weekend, once a year — when close to 150 buildings of architectural, historic, cultural and social significance open their doors to the public for a city-wide celebration." -- Doors Open website The event will take place during the last weekend in May, when Karma will invite the public through its doors for: store tours, informational lectures about food politics and practices, and a fascinating panel discussion from some of the founders, who will be sharing stories from the co-op's four decades of history. In addition, Karma's Members Room will become an archival gallery, featuring materials from over the course of the last 40 years, and a peak at what's to come.
