The focus of the talk will be the evolution of co-operative central premises buildings in the North West of England in response to their members’ needs. It will also examine the question ‘What did these buildings mean for the co-operative movement, and how were they achieved’?. This lecture is by Stephen McCusker. Stephen is an Architect and a Director of Loop Systems Ltd, a co-operative business. He has worked on building projects for co-operative enterprises, including the recent extension and refurbishment of the Rochdale Pioneers Museum. His research interests follow trends in architecture within society both in the past and the future, complimenting his ongoing work as an Associate Lecturer at the Manchester School of Architecture. This talk is supported by the RIBA Research Trust.
